FONEMED@Home Receives Research and Development Funding from Government of Canada
Colorado Springs, CO — March 17, 2011 — Colorado-based FONEMED®, a health information technology services company, reported today that the Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Innovation Fund (AIF), has announced an investment in a major R&D effort to deliver the next generation of remote disease management services. The FONEMED@Home Division develops integrated technology and services, including remote monitoring, care transition, health coaching and post-discharge follow-up care. This project, with total estimated costs of $3.9 million, will receive approximately $2.4 million in support from the AIF.
“Through this AIF project, FONEMED will develop value-added products and services for current and new clients,” said the Honorable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway. “The technology development of this project will greatly increase the access their clients will have to critical health information. Our Government is pleased to support the development of health-care technology that will provide access to disease management protocols. This new technology will enhance services and accessibility to vital health-care information.”
Michael L. Weaver, MD., Medical Director of FONEMED, observed, “Payers are pushing to control costs and improve outcomes through new approaches like Accountable Care Organizations and Patient Centered Medical Home programs. FONEMED’s integration of remote medical devices and communications technologies with health professionals, information infrastructures and operating systems provides the interactive extension of hands-on care.”
Chair of the FONEMED Advisory Board Robert Johnston, MD. added, “Atlantic Innovation Fund support will help FONEMED make our programs comprehensive and cost effective for a healthy future for organizations and their patients that partner with FONEMED.”
